I have two answers. The first is one word: Yuck. The second is four words: I ‘m not a fan.
Put aside the charlatans and other scamsters who lurk in the world of multi-level marketing. While there are plenty of legitimate folks in this arena (I buy Amway soaps from time to time), there are simply too many empty promises and outright frauds for my taste.
That said, Angie, if you are hell-bent on this organic coffee business (which, by the way, is increasingly available not just at specialty stores but at the local grocery), I’d urge you to ask 6 smart questions that Scott Allen has posted on About.com. They range from how long it would take to earn a profit to who’s above you on the pyramid. You can find his questions here: http://entrepreneurs.about.com/cs/multilevelmktg/a/toogoodtobetrue.htm
For my taste, I’d move on to the next opportunity. But if you decide this is for you, at least go in with your eyes open.

The only way to promote yourself and your business is to network. You won’t get anywhere sitting at home doing nothing. You should be talking to people at all times, every where you go. Your business sounds ‘green’ like mine so you have a great advantage! Never give up!

Angie,
If you are going to start a home business, there are five points to
consider. The company must be stable financially and have leadership.
The product must be unique and consumable. It must be in front of the
current trends. Timing is most important. What is the prospect for
growth with your product and company. Finally there is the compensation. How well will you be rewarded for your efforts?
There may be many companies that have several of these five points,
but if you are missing one, or two, your chances of success are
greatly reduced. One company that is strong in all five areas is
LifeVantage. You should check out the 8 minute ABC NEWS
PRIMETIME video at http://www.lifevantage.com. Click the TRUE TV link.
This is a unique opportunity.

The advantages:
1. Minimal start up cost
2. Training provided
3. Product Line in place
4. Customer Service provided
5. Credit Card processing provided
Disadvantages:
1. Compensation Plans vary
2. Qualifying requirements for higher compensation
3. Non-competitive pricing on products
Most MLM Companies do not "really" have a customer base. All the products are bought by the distributors for their personal consumption…and when a distributor quits because he/she is not making the money they expected to make you loose not only a downline distributor but a customer as well.

No. Unless you have a lot of time and money to invest into inventory. But, I still say don’t bother.

Hi Angie,
My hat is off to you for wanting to start your own business in network marketing. As USA Today stated on the front page several weeks ago. "Network Marketing" is the only recession proof business in the world. But as a veteran of owning and operating my own companies since the age of 17 there are several things to keep in mind before joining this particular team. You must sell products which usually equates to buying inventory like with Avon, Amway etc. Also if their products are hard sell items you will be stuck with them and in today’s economy people are passing on things they can by cheaper elsewhere or can do without. Think about it!
I became a self made millionaire at the age of 25, I know hard to believe from a stranger over the internet but nevertheless true. I retired at the age of 50 when one of my sons was in a motocross accident and suffered permanent brain damage. I now devote my time to helping people start their own home based businesses.Read my profile if you wish. I am always available to answer your questions and help.

It’s one of the great ways to get started. The only pitfall is that if you don’t have the right training you’ll end up like most folks who conclude it doesn’t work. There is an art to it.
Since the sign up is very minimal, I think it would be a great way to get yourself oriented to the industry. Look for a good trainer, and learn how to market your product. Good luck!

If you are a social person and enjoy company of friends and can sell products you should definitely go for network marketing. You can even expand your network and use internet to promote sales through your website.
The only disadvantage , I can foresee is that you need at least a small customer base to start . The product should be of good quality and the company should help you in setting up your business. You might have to stock up a decent amount of the product for sale. If the product is not good , you might not be able to sustain and make repeated sales.
if you are interested in internet, there are various ways of expanding your income by diversifying. To expand your business , you can use MLM (Multi Level marketing,) recruit leads and earn residual income. This takes time but you can surely build your network to give you a steady income even in recession. Another one is affiliate marketing where you select and promote products of different company through internet. You will have to get registered to ClickBank ,Commission Junction etc . They offer a range of products and sign off is through submitting form . If you are not a novice and know how to operate computers , you can use internet which is a huge market where millions of customers, newbies launch their products and million dollars worth trading happens in a single day.
